A village that has recently been upgraded to a municipality and has rapid development. Sotira is one of the agricultural ‘red soil villages’ (Kokkinochoria) in the Famagusta area, named after the significant 16th-century Medieval church of Metamorphosis tou Sotiros (Transfiguration of Jesus Christ). Sotira is mostly known for its ‘kolokasi’ (taro root - colocasia esculanta) - which is celebrated annually with a Kolokasi Festival in September or October. Amenities such as supermarkets, pharmacies, shops, coffee shops, and some of the finest traditional taverns in the area can be found in the village. Due to its elevated location, the village enjoys breathtaking Mediterranean Sea views and is a perfect choice for families, young couples, and elderly people.
